This 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Mk I was built in February 1960 and dispatched to New York. The car was refurbished under previous ownership in the 1990s before being acquired by the seller in 2006. Power is supplied by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a replacement four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Finished in Healey Blue over black leather, the car features a black soft top, 72-spoke 15″ wire wheels, rear tube shocks, dual SU carburetors, PerTronix electronic ignition, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and 2+2 seating. This BT7 is now offered in Canada with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, side curtains, spare parts, a car cover, and Ontario registration in the seller’s name.

The car was finished from the factory in Healey Blue and features a removable black soft top, detachable side windows, a hood scoop, dual side mirrors, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The seller notes an area of rust on the lower portion of the driver-side door as well as a patch and a hole in the convertible top.

Chrome-finished 15″ 72-spoke knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 195/70 Marangoni E-Comm radial tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. Rear tube shocks have been adapted.

The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats that were re-covered in black leather in 2022, when the interior trim panels also were replaced, the seller tells us. The wood panel behind the rear seats was replaced around the same time. Appointments include a wood shift knob, a padded center armrest, lap belts, a passenger-side grab handle, door-panel storage pockets, black carpeting, and floor mats. A blower motor for the heater is no longer installed, and a replacement motor will accompany the vehicle.

The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths white-dial instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 4,250 miles, about 3,500 of which were added under current ownership. The seller states that the odometer reading is not accurate, and true mileage is unknown. The fuel gauge is inaccurate.

The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD6 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 137 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The engine is said to have been rebuilt under prior ownership, and the carburetors were rebuilt and an electric fuel pump was fitted in 2020. PerTronix electronic ignition, open-element air cleaners, a spin-on oil-filter adapter, and a stainless-steel exhaust system have been installed. The carburetors were cleaned in August 2025, and the seller states that replacement of the carburetor needles may be needed.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement Mk 3–sourced four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. The seller states that the overdrive unit does not engage reliably.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate indicates that the car was built in February 1960 and was dispatched to New York on March 9, 1960. The document also lists the factory serial numbers, colors, and equipment.

The vehicle is being sold on its Ontario registration, which serves as the ownership document in Ontario, Canada.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
